Root Excavation and Root Pruning
Roots may also need pruning. Dysfunctional root formations and growth patterns are harmful to trees.
Some tree species are notorious for girdling roots. These conditions require root pruning in order to preserve the health and safety of your trees.
In this example the girdling root has choked the tree and as a result, epicormic shoots have started forming at the base. A sure indicator that the tree is in a state of stress.
Small girdling roots may be covered by earth and not visible. In order to discover if there are girdling roots below the surface, a pneumatic tool is used to safely remove earth at the base of the tree exposing the root system. Once visible, the girdling roots can be removed, reducing stress and thus improving the health of the tree.
